Second Marble Heritage Wall Unveiling

Join us Saturday, September 24 for the unveiling of Proctor's second Marble Heritage Wall during the 9th annual Fall Festival in Proctor.

The Marble Heritage Walls honor the immigrants who came to Vermont to harvest her rich resource of marble. They are engraved with both regional contributors and immigrants who fled Europe and brought resourcefulness, hope, commitment and talents that have contributed significantly to Vermont's famed independent spirit and ethnic make-up. Video Unveiling: The Vermont Trail - Yesterday & Today

Life in Proctor, West Rutland and other towns was bustling during the height of the historic Vermont Marble Company. Noon whistles and shift-change gridlock were daily realities. Interviews with people who grew up during that time bring it all to life. Emmy-award winning filmmaker Caro Thompson has pulled together highlights of her video interviews. They tell of the life and times of the marble industry from a hometown point of view.

Sharing the Story of Vermont Marble

Dimensions of Marble (DOM) is designed to bring the story of one of Vermont's major natural resources to as broad a public as possible. DOM was founded in 2005 by a small group of Vermont citizens who believe that the story of marble, its history, its artistry and the people who worked in the marble industry should be documented and shared with all Vermonters as well as national and international audiences.

DOM Projects
Through six distinct DOM projects we will bring together the history of marble quarries and workers, the communities in which they lived, the artistry of sculptors past and present and the vision of the people who, over generations, created a multitude of useful new products.  We invite your feedback and perspective on our mission or any of our projects!

Care to get involved?
Please join us! There are many ways you can participate — even if by a simple (but much appreciated) donation to support our non-profit organization. Help us serve all those who have recognized the value of marble and brought the benefits of it to Vermont, the nation and the world through architecture, important everyday products and beautiful art.
